What I do
I have been mediating, facilitating and coaching in various situations for nearly 25 years, primarily in Scotland and also throughout the UK and Ireland, with occasional journeys to mainland Europe, Africa and further afield.
Primarily, I see my role as enabling people to have the kind of conversations that, for whatever reason, have been difficult. “I wish we’d had this conversation a year ago…”, or similar, is probably what I hear most from those with whom I work.
Often, those with whom I work are in senior positions, whether in governance or other leadership situations, in political or policy roles, in sport, business, the professions, the public or private sectors or… in any similar situations.
Usually, I am asked to draw on my extensive experience of negotiation and what works well in difficult disputes or where other differences exist. On other occasions, I act as a sounding board, a listening ear, for those facing tough choices and decisions.
Sometimes, it’s people who are simply struggling to find a way forward after months or years of stalemate or impasse, perhaps in a court case or in unsatisfactory negotiations.
My involvement can take many forms: as a mediator, a facilitator, a 1:1 coach or a trainer of large or small groups, in person or online - or a hybrid of some or all of these.
Whatever the circumstances I hope that, by listening, asking appropriate questions and considering constructive strategies, I can help to make a difference.
Indeed, I hope I can help you to have Better Conversations with Better Outcomes.
